Family Alert - Tommy is severely burned!

Post by Scott » Thu Sep 09, 2004 3:14 pm

Family Wire - JohnInman(09-09-2004 01:30 PM): Family alert- Tommy was severely burned on Saturday. He has lost all of the skin on his legs from the Knees down. His arms and elbows also were badly burned. They are evaluating him for skin grafts and keeping him pretty doped up for now.

Johnny e-mailed me with news yesterday. Told Wardine I'd be happy to fly out if needed for child care/cooking. We are all praying and will do anything to help. Can't stand to think of Tommy in all that pain.
Love each other - and me - Margie

Up date on Tommy's condition. He was severely burned on his legs and arms
on Saturday when the leaf/log pile exploded. ( Too much gasoline, too little
speed (insert obvious other thing there was too little, rhymes with
trains!!!)

Subject: Tommy Update...

We just got back from the doctors office and he is very pleased with
Tommy's progress. We are still not out of the woods from needing skin
graph surgery and all of the rehab/recovery that goes with it, but the
percentage is much lower.

Tommy has now lost all of the skin between his knees and ankles, but the
doctor assured us the red flesh we are seeing is good, because that
indicates that the blood vessels are regenerating in the area. I think
yesterday was the "worse before it gets better" part that the doctor
told us to expect. Tommy still has a lot of pain but he is now taking
800mg of Ibuprofen with his Percoset and that seemed to have helped the
most so far. He still is not able to get around on his own, but the
pain is getting more bearable for him. There is no indication of
infection at this point, which is the biggest concern we have with this
whole ordeal. At the first sign of infection, he will be admitted.

We appreciate everyone's offers to help with anything we may need, at
this point we are OK and with the weekend approaching the kids will be
able to help out. I will keep everyone updated, especially if there is
a turn for the worse. Thanks for all of your calls and concerns.

I called John Sr. and he said Tommy is in alot of pain, will be out of work for 4 to 6 weeks, and in pain for 12 weeks. He is on MAJOR pain killers. He has circulation problem in legs .. maybe compouded by the burn.

Accident happend as Tommy was burning a pile of trees (burn pile) left from past tornadoes. He used a bunch of gasoline and got some on himself. John Sr. said it was like a bomb went off and there was a huge mushroom cloud.

Neighbors called Fire Department as they did not know what it was. A wedding was in process at John Sr.'s house so they all saw the flames.

My Prayers are with you. The pain must be The Worst ! I can not even imagine.

Please heed all good medical advice, take every precation, and don't rush it. Easy for me to say, huh ?

Fire is the Devil's only friend.

Know you are loved from coast to coast.

This, too, shall pass, but it's gonna hurt like Hell.

Love,

Your Cuz,

Matt
